STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  Located at 300 West Jackson Avenue, Summerdale’s Museum and Archives is a hidden gem that is filled with the rich military history of those who fought in numerous wars throughout the nation’s history. Unfortunately, the museum has been closed to the public due to staffing issues.

The museum is stocked with photos of over 60 WWII Veterans and eleven (11) WWI veterans, some of which grew up or at some point lived in Summerdale, as well as exhibits of saltshakers collected from around the world, unique typewriters, dolls, artwork, and clothing items.

Although the current displays are near capacity, there is still potential for growth at the museum as members of the community continue to gather items and memorabilia from local families who want to keep the town’s history preserved and on display for the next generations to learn their heritage and for older generations to relive memories.
