Approve Change Order #1 in the amount of $39,700.00 with Gillis Construction, Inc., on the Live Oak Landing Boat Launch project and authorize the Chairman to execute the Change Order.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Engineer, Steve Delahunty, with Sawgrass Construction, LLC, is submitting for Commission approval Change Order #1 in the amount of $39,700.00 for the Live Oak Landing Boat Launch project. The Engineer and County staff discovered during final inspection of the boat launch project that this year’s high water caused damage to the north and south floating docks and some of the pilings on the docks. The north and south floating dock systems and decking exceed the maximum ADA cross slope (2%) during low tide conditions. The additional work will increase the original construction time by 15 working days. The recommended improvements are in the immediate best interest of Public Safety for those that use this facility and mitigation of future repair cost to the County.
The original construction cost was $272,660.00; including Change Order #1 in the amount of $39,700.00, the new construction cost will be $312,360.00 with an increase in construction time of 15 working days.
The Commission budgeted $315,000.00 to repair the three Live Oak Boat Launches during the FY23 budget.
Previous Commission action/date:
09/05/2023 meeting: 1) Awarded the bid to Gillis Construction, Inc., in the bid amount of $272,660.00; Construction Time: 35 working days; and authorized the Chairman to execute the Contract; and 2) Not awarding Alternate #1 (Temporary Steel Sheet Piling) $110,250.00.
06/06/2023 meeting: 1) Authorized the Purchasing Director and Engineer to place a competitive bid and authorized the Chairman/Purchasing Division Commissioner for the Baldwin County Commission to approve any necessary addendums or clarifications if required after the bid is advertised; and 2) Approved the Chairman to execute any project related documents.
