STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
Take the following actions:
1) Approve the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Revenue Replacement Funds in the amount of $400,000.00 for the cost of the contracted engineering design professional services for the Scenic Highway 98 Bridge Replacement Project in Point Clear; and
2) Adopt Resolution #2024-123 of the Baldwin County Commission allocating up to $400,000.00 of ARPA Revenue Replacement Funds for the contracted engineering design professional services costs for the Scenic Highway 98 Bridge Replacement Project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Final Rule issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury on January 6, 2022, identified the cost of expenses for necessary government services for the provision of well-maintained, safe roads and bridges.
Project description: This project is located on Scenic Highway 98 over Point Clear Creek, south of Fairhope. The existing bridge structure is in poor condition due to saltwater corrosion of the bridge components, which has caused structural failures. This has lowered the load capacity, making some vehicles have to detour around the bridge, resulting in longer commute times. The proposed improvements include installing a larger bridge and stabilizing the open ditches with riprap and ground cover.
