BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Highway Department is submitting for Commission approval Change Order #1 in the amount of $28,947.59 for Project No. HW22031 - Drainage Improvements along Faircloth Road. The project had two overruns over the planned quantities. Bermuda Sod had an overrun of 5,325 SY from plans. This was due to the need to cover up all exposed soil during the construction of ditch. The plan quantity did not account for covering the entire ditch with sod. Due to the limited grade change in the ditch from top to bottom it was instrumental to have the ditch fully vegetated immediately to prevent any sedimentation into the ditch which would cause issues with the water flow. The second overrun was for temporary Coarse Aggregate #1 stone. This stone had a 2.5 ton overrun due to the load tickets for four (4) loads of rock. The loading of stone is very difficult to be precise on exact tonnages.
The original construction cost was $720,312.20 including Change Order #1 the amount of $28,947.59 the new construction cost will be $749,259.79 with no increase in construction time.
