STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
Adopt Resolution #2025-076, approving the updated 2025 Baldwin County Flood Hazard Management Plan.
End
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: Baldwin County actively participates in the Community Rating System (CRS), which is a component of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Participation in the CRS program enables the County to earn credits for enhanced flood hazard mitigation efforts, which contribute to reduced flood insurance premiums for residents.
In compliance with CRS requirements, the County must develop and periodically update a Flood Hazard Management Plan to account for changes in development and local mitigation strategies. To maintain program eligibility and ensure continued benefits for residents, this plan must undergo a comprehensive review and be resubmitted for approval every five years.
As part of the public engagement process, opportunities for community input on the updated plan were provided through the posting of the draft plan on the Building Department’s website and a public hearing held during the regular Commission meeting on February 18, 2025.
Previous Commission action/date: The Baldwin County Commission adopted the previous 2018 Baldwin County Flood Hazard Management Plan via Resolution #2019-091 on May 21, 2019.
