STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Take the following actions:

 

1) Approve Highway Department staff to prepare and submit an application for the Fiscal Year 2026 Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II) to request federal funding for intersection improvements on Project #HW26002 - State Route 59 at Boatyard Road; and

 

2) Adopt Resolution #2026-004 authorizing the grant application submittal; and

 

3) Authorize the Chairman to send a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) advising of Baldwin County’s intent to apply for federal funds for the construction of the project; and

 

4) Approve the Chairman to sign any other award or reporting documents as needed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Recommendation

Background:  The FY 2026 ATRIP-II application deadline is November 14, 2025. The total amount that a project sponsor can apply for is $2,000,000.00 in ATRIP-II funds. The Highway Department will evaluate the proposed scope and limits for the project submittal.

The ATRIP-II grant does not require a local match. If awarded, Baldwin County will provide Design using FY 2026 funds to expedite the Project.

Previous Commission action/date: 

September 16, 2025 - Adopted the FY 2026 Budget approving $200,000.00 for the Boatyard Road at State Route 59 ATRIP-II project design.
