STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution #2025-144 establishing the Baldwin County America 250th Committee to serve as an advisory committee related to America’s 250th anniversary commemorative events in Baldwin County.

End

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  The United States will commemorate its 250th anniversary in 2026, marking a historic milestone in the Nation's journey since its founding in 1776. This semiquincentennial celebration will be a year-long event featuring national, state, and local initiatives aimed at honoring American history, culture, and achievements.

Given Baldwin County’s strong commitment to community engagement and historical preservation, establishing an America 250th Committee would ensure a structured and professional approach to supporting upcoming events developed throughout the year. The Committee will serve until July 4, 2026, and shall consist of the following five members:

Ralph “Tim” Russell

Eddie Tyler

James “Mike” Bunn

Charles “Chuck” Cornwall

Harriet Outlaw

The Advisory Committee will monitor national and state level America 250th efforts and advise local organizations, businesses, schools, and veterans’ groups on ways to support federal and state commissions using a method that will tie together community events already taking place. Citizens can bring their local events and ideas to a collaborative group that will make recommendations for consolidating and enhancing the events. This will allow the County Commission the opportunity to adopt any proclamations, show its support, and attend events throughout the year.
