BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  Pursuant to Section 45-2-244.183(a)(2) of the Code of Alabama (1975), twelve percent (12%) of certain county revenues are designated for historic site preservation in Baldwin County. Of this amount, at least ten percent (10%) must be allocated to the Historic Blakeley Authority, and up to two percent (2%) may be used to support other historic sites. The Baldwin County Commission received four funding requests through the Historic Parks Fund, which were reviewed by staff and evaluated for eligibility and merit in accordance with the statute. Based on this review, four of the five requests were found to meet the requirements for funding consideration.

Resolution #2026-014 recommends approval of funding for following four qualified organizations:

Daphne History Museum ($18,825) for cemetery clearing, interpretive signage, exhibit restoration, and display enhancements

Baldwin County Heritage Museum ($17,500) for a climate control system to protect artifacts

Stockton Heritage Museum ($25,000) for structural repairs to the historic post office/general store building

Swift-Coles Historic Home ($15,000) for repairs to the fireplace and the foundation of the historic home

Approval of this resolution will provide needed financial assistance to preserve and enhance significant local historic and cultural resources within Baldwin County.
