STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

In conformance with Section 40-3-2, Code of Alabama (1975), nominate the following three (3) persons for consideration by the Alabama Commissioner of Revenue, with the approval of the Governor, for one (1) of said nominees to serve as a member of the Baldwin County Board of Equalization, for a four (4) year period, said term to commence October 1, 2023:

Nominee #1 - Mr. Al Thompson
Nominee #2 - Mr. Thomas Granger

Nominee #3 - Ms. Hope Zeanah

Further, authorize all County Commissioners to sign the Official Report - Nominations for the County Board of Equalization for submission to the Alabama Department of Revenue.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Background: Reason for replacement item: Hope Zeanah was nominated by Commissioner Matthew P. McKenzie and the Affidavit of Eligibility to Serve form is forthcoming. On March 13, 2023, staff received a request from the Honorable Vernon Barnett, Commissioner, Alabama Department of Revenue, for the selection of three nominees to the County Board of Equalization and the submission of its nominations on the Official Report Form by the deadline of August 1, 2023. Mr. Al Thompson and Mr. Thomas Granger were nominated by Chairman Charles F. Gruber and have completed the Affidavit of Eligibility to Serve form.

 

Section 40-3-2, Code of Alabama 1975, requires that each County governing body shall nominate three (3) persons for consideration in the selection of a County Board of Equalization. One member of the Board is to be chosen from the list submitted by the governing body.
