Recommendation
Adopt Resolution #2023-154, authorizing an appropriation in the amount of $15,000.00 from the Historic Parks Fund to the Fort Mims Restoration Association, Inc. for the Fort Mims Re-enactment and Living History Event on August 26 - 27, 2023, and School Days Event 2023 at the Fort Mims State Historic Site, said appropriation/expenditure being used to offset the costs incurred for services provided by the Baldwin County Commission related to site preparation and event services.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: Staff received a request dated June 30, 2023, from Claudia Campbell, President of the Fort Mims Restoration Association (FMRA), requesting assistance from the Baldwin County Commission in preparing the Fort Mims State Historic Site for the Fort Mims Re-enactment and Living History Event on August 26 - 27, 2023 and School Days Event 2023. The FMRA maintains the Fort Mims State Historic Site for the Alabama Historical Commission.
Effective October 1, 2019, Act#2019-338 allows for expenditures for historic sites in Baldwin County as follows: At least ten percent shall be expended for the Historic Blakeley Authority, and up to two (2) percent shall be expended for other historic sites in Baldwin County for the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the sites.
The Fort Mims Restoration Association, Inc requests financial support for Living History events at the Fort Mims State Historic Site which is a nationally and state-recognized historic site.
Previous Commission action/date: 06/21/2022 - Last BCC approval of appropriation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Total cost of recommendation: $15,000.00 (total cost); Fort Mims Re-enactment and Living History Event on August 26 - 27, 2023 - $9,500.00; School Days Event 2023 - $5,500.00.
The money appropriated to the Fort Mims Restoration Association; Inc. will be used to offset the costs incurred for services related to site preparation and event services.
Budget line item(s) to be used: 742.23506
If this is not a budgeted expenditure, does the recommendation create a need for funding? Act #2019-338 allows for expenditures for historic sites in Baldwin County. Funding for Resolution #2023-154, will come from Fund 742 - Historic Parks Fund.
