BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: In reference to the recommended actions above:
1) Establishing a speed limit of 35 MPH on this portion of County Road 6 Extension is appropriate due to heavy foot traffic between the Sunset Bay Condominiums and the bridge as well as the results of the traffic study and the horizontal alignment of the road.
2) Establishing a speed limit of 25 MPH on this portion of Plash Road is appropriate based on the results of the traffic study and the current posted speed limits on adjoining roads.
3) Establishing a speed limit of 15 MPH on Bon Bay Drive and The Loop is appropriate due to the roadway narrowing from 18 feet to 16 feet and not having a center line.
4) Lowering the speed limit on this portion of County Road 71 S from 45 MPH to 35 MPH is based on the results of the traffic study and proximity to Snook Christian Academy school.
5) Lowering the speed limit on this portion of County Road 16 from 35 MPH to 25 MPH is appropriate due to the results of the traffic study and an increase of houses served on this road from 29 in 2024 to 40 in 2026.
County Road 6 Extension, Plash Road, Bon Bay Drive and The Loop are all in the police jurisdiction of Gulf Shores. County Road 71 S is in the police jurisdiction of Summerdale. County Road 16 is in the police jurisdiction of Foley.
