Approve a notification to Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) for Fiscal Year 2027 related to volunteer fire departments, municipal fire departments, and search and rescue units receiving public funds (Ad Valorem or Tobacco Tax) in Baldwin County, Alabama.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

 

Background:  Qualified volunteer fire departments and fire departments in Baldwin County receive portions of ad valorem tax proceeds pursuant to the authority found at Section 45-2-242 of the Code of Alabama (1975).

 

Qualified search and rescue units in Baldwin County receive portions of tobacco tax proceeds pursuant to the authority found at Section 45-2-244.130 through Section 45-2-244.135 of the Code of Alabama (1975).

 

ADECA requires fire departments and rescue squads to provide verification of funding each fiscal year as part of its application process for the organization to be eligible to purchase surplus equipment from the State of Alabama. The notification letter from the County Commission consists of a list of fire departments and search and rescue units in Baldwin County receiving disbursements of Ad Valorem and Tobacco tax proceeds.

 

Previous Commission action/date:  February 19, 2026 - Notification letter to ADECA approved by BCC.
