STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Approve the request from United Way of Baldwin County to utilize two (2) Baldwin Regional Area Transit System (BRATS) buses for transporting approximately 40 individuals on an agency tour within Baldwin County on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at an estimated cost of $599.40 to be paid by United Way of Baldwin County.

End

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  July 5, 2022 - BCC approved BRATS to provide transit service for a United Way Agency tour on July 26, 2022.

August 27, 2019 - BCC approved BRATS to provide transit service for a United Way Agency tour on September 25, 2019.

Background:  Staff received a request dated May 25, 2023, from Lana Mummah with United Way of Baldwin County, Inc., requesting transportation service for an agency tour within Baldwin County on Wednesday, August 3, 2023.  The tour of qualifying human service organizations will include ARC of Baldwin County, CARE House, Alabama Sheriff’s Boys Ranch, Family Promise of Baldwin County, Baldwin Youth Services, Ecumenical Ministries, and United Way of Baldwin County Office.

The estimated cost of $599.40 for two (2) buses is to be paid by United Way of Baldwin County.  This service is exempt from charter regulations because it: 1) is outside the MPO Urbanized area, and 2) benefits human service organizations for elderly, disabled, or low-income. BRATS has reviewed its staffing levels and will be able to accommodate the request.
