BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: Contract forthcoming from staff.
Staff obtained a proposal from Otis Elevator Company for the Purchase and Installation of HydroFit MOD Hydraulic Control System for Modernization of the Elevator in Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency Building. The current elevator in the EMA building is 30 years old, and the control parts are no longer manufactured. If it were to break, it would remain inoperable until replaced and it has become problematic over the last few years. There will be $5,000.00 to $7,500.00 of in-house work to be done to support the project.
The equipment will be purchased off the OMNIA Partners Sector national purchasing cooperative. The Alabama Department of Public Accounts has stated in a letter to all public entities that, based on their review of the competitive bidding process used by OMNIA, all Alabama entities may use the OMNIA Partners Public Sector national purchasing cooperative as long as it is first verified whether or not the goods are either not at the time available on the state purchasing program or are available at a price equal to or less than that on the state purchasing program. The Purchasing Director has verified that the elevator equipment is not on the current State of Alabama contract.
Staff recommends the Commission approve the proposal and authorize the Chairman to execute the Public Works Contract and Certificate of Compliance.
