BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  The Stockton Heritage Association (SHA) is a non-profit organization formed over 20 years ago to promote, protect, and preserve the unique culture and heritage of Stockton and North Baldwin.

In 2012, SHA spearheaded the successful grassroots effort to designate Stockton as the First Landmark District in Alabama.  SHA recognizes outstanding individuals who have contributed to the quality of life and helped to protect, promote, and preserve the unique culture and character of the Stockton Landmark District and North Baldwin.

The award is named the "Lynn Hastie Bozone Citizen of the Year Award" in honor of Ms. Bozone, the second president of the SHA, who chaired the drive to create Stockton as a Landmark District and wrote the book “The Leaves of Stockton: A History of Stockton and its People” (Vol. 1 & 2) along with her mother, Ms. Davida Hastie, the first president of SHA. Each year, SHA recognizes deserving North Baldwin citizens with the award.

The selection of the winner is made from the nominations submitted by the seven-member SHA Board during its December meeting. Selection is based on contributions to the community, civic involvement, and character. The winner was announced at the annual Christmas Open House for the Stockton Heritage Museum, held on December 8, 2024. The SHA awards this honor annually to recognize an individual who has helped promote, protect, and preserve the unique culture and character of the Stockton Landmark District and North Baldwin.
