BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  The 2024 Tourism Community Grants Program is designed to attract out-of-state tourists and generate revenue by promoting attendance at community-wide special events. Since out-of-state visitors spend more money than local attendees, the highest priorities were given to attractions and events that will bring in tourists from other states. These funds will be used to continue to market Bicentennial Park.

Grant funds were supported by Representative Donna Givens.

Previous Commission action/date:  August 6, 2024 - BCC accepted the 2024 Tourism Grant for $7,800.00 from the Alabama Tourism Department for the Baldwin County Commission (Department of Archives and History) to assist with expenses involved with Olde Time Days at Bicentennial Park (October 5, 2024) and the Christmas Extravaganza (December 14, 2024).

May 7, 2024 - BCC confirmed, ratified and approved the submittal of the Alabama Tourism Grant Application by staff on behalf of the Baldwin County Commission for grant funds for community-wide events and festivals. The grant application was submitted by staff electronically before Commission approval due to time constraints and the submission deadline of March 31, 2024.
