BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Baldwin County Commission held its Fall Commission sponsored events to include Olde Time Day at Bicentennial Park on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Removal Day at the County seat in Bay Minette on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Terror at the Landing (Haunted Hayride) on Friday, October 20, 2023, and Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
The events were coordinated and hosted by the Baldwin County Commission’s Department of Archives and History with invaluable support from the Parks, Building Maintenance, Highway, Custodial, Probate, Revenue Commission, and EMA Departments, and the Baldwin County Corrections Office.
Community engagement is important in local government. It is the foundation of good governance. Community events do not replace the decision-making functions of the Commission, rather they help to inform and guide them. Research proves that events and festivals attract visitors, and festivals are the fastest-growing forms of tourism. These events also have a positive and lasting impact on the communities that take part. Events strengthen community spirit and civic pride and bring people of different ethnic backgrounds together.
Previous Commission action/date: May 2, 2023 - The Baldwin County Commission approved the Archives and History Department to host/coordinate/promote on-site, and non-standard hours Commission sponsored events.
