BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Baldwin County Highway Department has observed the need for additional safety improvements on County Road 68 for an existing pedestrian crossing just west of State Route 161 (aka Baldwin Beach Express). Continuous increases in traffic have warranted a reevaluation of this segment of roadway. Based upon a recently completed speed study, Highway Staff is recommending the following safety improvements: a reduction of the posted speed limit from 45 MPH to 35 MPH; a raised pedestrian crosswalk; and replacement of the existing signage with flashing, solar-powered pedestrian warning signs.
