BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. The Office of the Veterans Affairs has requested the County Commission recognize September as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month in Baldwin County and allow the VA Office to display 139 small flags at the Foley Satellite Courthouse grounds (by the USS Peterson Bell memorial) in remembrance of the 139 veterans who lost their lives to suicide in Alabama last year.

Many organizations, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), actively participate in awareness campaigns throughout the month of September to raise awareness about suicide prevention and promoting resources available to individuals who may be struggling.

Larry Stier, Baldwin County Veterans Service Officer, with Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs will be present at the meeting to accept the Proclamation.
