STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
Take the following actions:
1) Accept the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council Grant for $15,000.00 for Phase I of the project entitled: Baldwin County First Settlers Brick Paver Program; and
2) Approve the Cooperative Agreement between the Baldwin County Commission and Gulf Coast (RC&D) Council; and
3) Authorize the Chairman and the Director of Archives to execute documents related to the above grant.
The Cooperative Agreement begins October 1, 2023, and ends September 30, 2024.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Baldwin County First Settlers Brick Paver Program is planned to tell the story of how Baldwin County came to be. From the first settlers to the migrated farmers brought here, each person has a story, a dream, and an impact on Baldwin County. The program will highlight Baldwin County’s first settlers and the stories they handed down through generations and are still being told today by their descendants.
Brick pavers with engraved names of Baldwin County’s first settlers will be placed in the plaza located at the main picnic pavilion area at Baldwin County’s Bicentennial Park in Stockton, Alabama.
The grant will assist in the continuous development of the Bicentennial Park site for educational outreach and community development.
Archives and History staff continues to work to develop the Bicentennial Park site which is marketed to visitors looking for a day trip to explore the County’s history and culture and is promoted as an educational opportunity for residents and students looking to better understand the significant history of Baldwin County.
Previous Commission action/date: June 6, 2023 - The Baldwin County Commission during its regularly scheduled meeting approved the submittal of the grant application for the Gulf Coast (RC&D) Council Grant for $15,000.00 for Phase I of the Baldwin County First Settlers Memorial Brick Program.

Total cost of recommendation: $15,000.00 - to be offset by grant revenue.
