BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  Participation in the Memorandum of Agreement 287(g) Task Force Model for the ERO program allows the BCSO to enhance public safety by strengthening cooperation with federal immigration authorities to identify and address individuals who pose a demonstrable threat to the community and who are illegally in the United States.

By operating within clearly defined legal parameters and with federal oversight, the program helps ensure that offenders encountered in the course of normal law-enforcement duties are properly identified and transferred to ICE for appropriate action. This partnership promotes accountability, efficiency, and a coordinated approach to playing a role in immigration enforcement while maintaining the Sheriff’s Office’s core mission of protecting all residents.
