Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute Change Order #1 in the amount of $201,419.00 with James Bros. Excavating, Inc., for Project No. HW22024 - Traffic Light Installation at the Intersection of County Road 65 and County Road 12 South.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: The Highway Department is submitting for Commission approval Change Order #1 in the amount of $201,419.00 for Project No. HW22024 - Traffic Light Installation at the Intersection of County Road 65 and County Road 12 South. The change order is necessary due to unsuitable material that was encountered during the widening phase of construction, crown to be dedicated to County Road 65, additional striping and signal heads for turn lanes on County Road 12 South, and the transition from loop wire to video detection to enhance the traffic flow and will increase the contract time by 20 working days.
Mark Acreman, Assistant County Engineer, submitted a letter explaining why the Change Order is in excess of the normal 10%. Due to the extraordinary circumstances with the project the change order is necessary to complete this project.
Previous Commission action/date:
12/03/2024 meeting: Awarded the bid for Project No. HW22024 - Traffic Light Installation at the Intersection of County Road 65 and County Road 12 South to the lowest bidder, James Bros. Excavating, Inc., in the Bid Amount $1,231,007.00; Construction Time: 90 working days; and authorized the Chairman to execute the Contract.
06/18/2024 meeting: 1) Approved the Purchasing Director to place a competitive bid for a traffic signal and turn lane intersection improvements on County Road 65 at County Road 12 S; and 2) Approved the Chairman to execute any project related documents.
