STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Based on the recommendation of the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency Director and at the request of Southern Star Search & Rescue, Inc., the Baldwin County Commission recognizes Southern Star Search & Rescue, Inc. as a duly organized and established search and rescue unit, operated as a public service for the benefit of the citizens of Baldwin County, Alabama. 

 

Furthermore, the Baldwin County Commission recognizes Southern Star Search & Rescue, Inc. as a voluntary nonprofit quasi-public entity under Code Section 45-2-142.01, rendering it eligible to receive and utilize public funds or property appropriated by the County.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

 

Background:  Southern Star Search & Rescue, Inc. (SOSAR) is requesting the County Commission formally recognize the organization under Alabama Code Section 45-2-142.01 in order for SOSAR to be eligible to purchase surplus equipment from the State of Alabama.  

 

The Baldwin County EMA Director has reviewed the request and supporting documentation submitted by SOSAR and concurs with the organization’s request to be recognized as a duly organized and established search and rescue unit, operating as a public service for the benefit of the citizens of Baldwin County, Alabama.
