Authorize the Chairman to execute a letter of support to Auburn University for its research grant titled “Promoting Infiltration Swales as a Green Stormwater Infrastructure Practice in Coastal Alabama.”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background: This project will showcase how infiltration swales can improve stormwater quality and reduce flooding in coastal Alabama. A demonstration infiltration swale will be installed along Pierce Creek Road in Mobile County to show how the roadside swale helps filter / infiltrate stormwater and manage runoff. Training workshops, public / community engagement activities, and research on swale performance will help / engage residents and local stormwater management leaders to learn about their design, installation, and environmental benefits. The goal is to inspire more use of infiltration swales across Alabama’s coastal areas to improve stormwater quality and strengthen community resilience.
The Environmental Advisory Committee approved the submission of the letter of support to the Baldwin County Commission for its consideration. There is no financial commitment to this project; the request is for a letter of support only.
