STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Related to the Cindy Haber Center, Inc. Human Rights Committee, take the following action:

 

1)  Appoint Chandra Middleton as a member of the Cindy Haber Center, Inc. Human Rights Committee, said term to commence on October 16, 2018, and to continue through the duration of Ms. Middleton’s employment with the Baldwin County Commission, Baldwin Regional Area Transit System (BRATS) Department.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

 

Background:  The Alabama Department of Mental Health requires the board to have a Human Rights Committee to review rights and restrictions of individuals enrolled in services in Baldwin County.  The individuals enrolled to receive the services of the Cindy Haber Center, Inc. have an IQ below 70 and a diagnosis of mental retardation/intellectual disabilities. 

 

The Human Rights Committee is comprised of people in the community and the Baldwin County Commission has been requested to appoint one person to serve in this capacity.  The appointment has no term limits and the appointment is at the discretion of the Commission with no other qualification requirements.

 

A request to appoint Chandra Middleton to the Committee (attached) was received from Ms. Cindy Haber, Executive Director of the board.  At this time, staff is brining the request before the Commission for consideration.

 

October 9, 2018, BCC Work Session - The Commission discussed the item.
