STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Authorize the Chairman to execute a Letter of Support to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for the Baldwin County Commission’s continued support of ALDOT’s INFRA Grant Program to the U. S. Department of Transportation for the I-10 Mobile River and Bayway Project.

End

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  October 3, 2017

Background:  The Baldwin County Commission submitted a letter of support for the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project on October 3, 2017, which was included in ALDOT’s grant application package to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the project.

On January 25, 2019, staff received correspondence from the Alabama Department of Transportation requesting a letter for the Baldwin County Commission’s on-going support of the Interstate 10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project.

This vital project has made great progress during the last two years and ALDOT is requesting continued support to keep up the momentum.  ALDOT is applying for an INFRA Grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation to partially fund the project.  Addressing congestion on I-10 now will assure continued safety and high quality of life in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
