Authorize the County Attorney to send correspondence to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and Alabama Ethics Commission to request for an advisory opinion regarding the use of County vehicles by County Commissioners and Officials/Employees.

Previous Commission action/date: N/A
Background: At the January 22, 2019 Work Session, the Commission discussed the current county policy regarding official and employee county owned take home vehicles. During the Work Session, the Commission instructed the County Attorney to draft letters requesting for an advisory opinion from the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and Alabama Ethics Commission.
According to the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA), if an employee uses a vehicle for personal use it should to be stated in the County policy. The current County Policy states individuals who are issued a County car shall not use the assigned vehicle for personal use.
