STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
Take the following actions:
1) Terminate the agreement with Companion Life for County sponsored and Voluntary Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance, said termination date effective January 1, 2019; and
2) Authorize the Chairman to execute a notification of termination letter to Companion Life; and
2) Award the County sponsored and Voluntary Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance to Lincoln Financial Group with said coverage to be effective January 1, 2019, for a two-year rate guarantee; and
3) Authorize the Chairman to sign all documents related to the County sponsored and Voluntary Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance with Lincoln Financial Group.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Previous Commission action/date: N/A
Background: During the October 16, 2018, Baldwin County Regular Meeting, Companion Life was approved to be the vendor for Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance for the Baldwin County Commission beginning January 1, 2019, and effective for two years. This coverage was up for renewal starting January 1, 2019, and Cobbs Allen obtained quotes and brought to the Commission the lowest renewal rate with comparable benefits. There have been numerous issues with Companion Life since October 2018, and all confidence has been lost that the corrections can be made and that coverages will run smoothly moving forward. At this time staff recommends the Commission terminate the current agreement and approve the renewal agreement in order for coverages to run smoothly moving forward. This will result in an increase in cost for County sponsored Life, AD&D and LTD in the amount of approximately $9,865 annually.
