Recommendation
Take the following actions:
1. Authorize the Highway Department to submit a project funding application to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Intersection Improvements Project at US Highway 31 and Old Highway 31 in Spanish Fort; and
2. Authorize the Chairman to execute a letter of intent and any other application related documents as required.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Previous Commission action/date: N/A
Background: The Highway Department is requesting permission to submit an application under the HSIP for an Intersection Improvements Project at US Highway 31 and Old Highway 31 in Spanish Fort. Under the HSIP program, the Federal contribution would be 90%, and the County, as Sponsor, would provide a 10% contribution. The estimated project cost is $363,500.00. The County’s estimated portion would be $36,350.00. If grant is approved, construction match will be budgeted in Fiscal Year 2020. Funding for Design would come from Highway Fiscal Year 2019 annual budgeted Engineering Services.
