BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Previous Commission action/date: BCC Work Session 05/28/2019
Background: The Baldwin County Bicentennial Steering Committee will host a “Bicentennial Exhibition” at the Daphne Civic Center in Daphne, Alabama on November 11, 2019. The exhibition will feature three oil paintings of original, accurate artwork depicting three of the nationally significant military battles in Baldwin County (the Battle of Fort Mims, Battle of Fort Blakeley, and the Battle of Fort Morgan). The artists have transferred ideas, sensations and emotions to the canvas.
The Committee is also pleased to announce the release of Baldwin County’s book publication, “200 Things to Know about Baldwin County.” The partnership between the Committee project leader and Alliance Publishing Company have made the book possible. Production of this book began in 2017 and we are excited to launch this book at the Bicentennial Exhibition. There will be many other Bicentennial displays featured at this event. The Daphne Civic Center was selected as the venue of choice because the Bicentennial is a county-wide celebration. This committee has been at work for three years and has made every effort to host an event in all corners of the county, with Daphne being the final location. The Mayor of Daphne is very excited about the opportunity to participate in the Bicentennial celebration and one-half of the Daphne Civic Center venue usage fee has been waived for this one-day exhibition.
