BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

Background:  During the May 28, 2019 work session, the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation (JCM Foundation) requested $2,000.00 to be used exclusively by the JCM Foundation to support Peer Helpers Program by and through their provisions of support services, education and counseling associated to suicide prevention and crisis management which benefits the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Baldwin County Alabama. The Peer Helpers program is a youth peer-to-peer support system which provides youth with the knowledge, resources and confidence to successfully navigate the pressures of day-to-day life issues and excel into adulthood. Since Jennifer Claire Moore’s inception in 1998, they have grown to 50 Peer Helpers programs within the Baldwin County public and private school system ranging from Pre-K to 12th grade. Peer Helpers have directly impacted over 9,300 students, and over 33,000 students have been impacted through Peer Helper’s outreach programs.

The Commission discussed the funding request and decided to consider the request during the Fiscal Year 2020 budget deliberations.

The Baldwin County Commission appropriated $750.00 to the JCM Foundation in 2007 and 2008, and $1,000.00 in 2009.
