STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Authorize the Chairman to submit a letter to the Alabama Department of Natural Resources Conservation Services requesting Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) funding to repair a watershed located near Turberville Road in Baldwin County.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

Background:  During the period of July 11, 2019 and July 14, 2019, a watershed located near Turberville Lane suffered impairment due to significant rainfall. Securing EWP funds will allow Baldwin County to perform much needed repairs to prevent future damage to public roads and property.

The estimated construction cost to repair the Turberville Lane head cut is $250,000.00. EWP funds, if awarded, would cover up to 75% ($187,500.00) of the construction cost. The County’s construction match would be $62,500.00. EWP funds will also cover up to $18,750.00 in design and CE&I costs (7.5% of construction). The balance of engineering costs and County construction match will be funded by Area 100 Maintenance Funds.
