STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Take the following actions:


1) Authorize the Chairman to send a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) in concurrence of awarding the contract for the bridge replacement on County Road 9 over Barner Branch to Newell & Bush, Inc.; and

 
2) Authorize the Clerk/Treasurer to process an interim check issued to ALDOT for County funds due in the amount of $TBD.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date: 

 

July 23, 2019:

The Commission approved Resolution #2019-120 and an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for the financing of construction cost associated with the County Road 9 Bridge Replacement over Barner Branch. Funding is subject to availability of Federal Aid Funds at the time of authorization. (Agreement shall be effective date of the approval of the Governor of Alabama and may be terminated by either party upon the delivery of a thirty (30) day notice of termination.)

 

May 16, 2017:

The Commission approved Resolution #2017-088 and an Agreement for Preliminary Engineering on a Federal Aid Project for the Alabama Department of Transportation Project - Bridge Replacement on County Road 9 over Barner Branch. Funding is subject to availability of Federal Aid Funds at the time of authorization. (Agreement shall be effective on the date of the approval of the Governor of Alabama and may be terminated by either party upon delivery of a thirty (30) day notice

of termination.)

 

 March 21, 2017:

The Commission approved Resolution #2017-074 and a Letter of Intent requesting to utilize Federal Aid Funds relating to Project BCP 0204517 to replace Baldwin County Bridge No. 105 on County Road 9 over Barner Branch; and authorized the Chairman to execute all associated documentation required to see this project to completion with the exception of the formal agreements between Baldwin County and ALDOT.

 

Background: 

The Alabama Department of Transportation opened bids for the bridge replacement on County Road 9 over Barner Branch on July 26, 2019. Newell & Bush Inc. has been awarded the project as the lowest bidder. The awarded bid price is $986,399.00 of this amount $TBD is funded from Baldwin County Federal Aid Funds and the required match $TBD was budgeted in 2018 Baldwin County Fiscal Year Budget.

 

The Highway Department has not received an invoice from ALDOT for the matching funds for the project. Funding amounts will be updated upon receipt of the invoice.
