BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

Background:  Currently, the speed limit on this section of County Road 32 is 55 MPH for a distance of .50 miles and then drops directly to 35 MPH for the remaining distance to CC Road. The lane widths of this section of road are 10 feet with an overall road width of 20 feet. State law does not allow posted speeds to be reduced by increments greater than 10 MPH and engineering standards require a minimum of 12-foot lane widths for roads with a posted speed limit higher than 45 MPH. A speed study was conducted showing that the 85th percentile speed was 59 MPH. In order to be compliant with state law and ensure minimum standards are met, the recommendation is to adjust the speed limit for this section to 45 MPH. This section of County Road 32 is in the jurisdiction of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
