STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Take the following actions:

 

1.                     Authorize the Baldwin County Coroner’s Office to submit an grant application to Walmart, Inc. for the Community Grant Program for Suicide/Drug Awareness in the amount of $2,000.00; and

 

2.                     Authorize the Chairman to execute the grant application and any other documents related to the application.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

 

Background:  The Office of the Coroner deals with the end stage results of both Drug Abuse and Suicide.  We are requesting a Community Grant from Walmart, Inc. to educate the public, primarily teenagers, in self-awareness of friends and family that may show signs of abuse or suicidal ideology.

 

The monies will be used to purchase two large backdrops as well as educational materials, that can be displayed at various events across Baldwin County.  The goal of which is to educate the public and to provide resources to slow the progress of these two terminal conditions.

 

The goal will be to quarterly attend conferences, festivals, high schools, or any venue which a significant number of people can be reached.
