STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Approve the purchase and authorize the Purchasing Director to issue a purchase order of thirty-one (31) Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for various County buildings to CINTAS in the amount of $52,574.45 off the Omnia U.S. Communities National Contract.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

Background:  During the October 8, 2019, Work Session, adding AEDs to County buildings was discussed.  The Risk Manager and Safety Coordinator met with the departments and inspected sites and determined the number of AEDs that need to be rented.  Cintas quoted a lease price of $89.00 per month/per AED for 31 AEDs ($33,108.00 annually).  After further research, it was determined that it is more cost effective to purchase the AEDs for $52,574.45 and pay an annual fee for service maintenance.  The AED units will be purchased off the Omnia U.S. Communities National Contract.  The Alabama Department of Public Accounts has stated in a letter to all public entities that based on their review of the competitive bidding process used by U.S. Communities that all Alabama entities may use the Omnia U.S. Communities contract if it is verified whether or not the goods are either not at the time available on the state purchasing program or are available at a price equal to or less than that on the state purchasing program. The Purchasing Director has verified that the AED’s are not available on the State of Alabama contract.
