Recommendation
Approve the use of the Bicentennial Park by the Gulf Coast Battalion to conduct a Camp of Instruction on Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for a Civil War Reenactment. The commanders will meet on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 4:30 p.m., with the option to camp outside on Friday night.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Previous Commission action/date: January 28, 2020, BCC Work Session
Background: The Gulf Coast Battalion has units from Florida to Mississippi, including Artillery, discounted Cavalry (no horses) and Infantry. The Battalion seeks to portray the period known as the War between the States in authentic fashion for public education through actual battle reenactments, living histories and memorials.
A Camp of Instruction is a time where Artillery, Cavalry and Infantry come together for instruction in their respective branches including in depth training and safety for new recruits.
If approved, the camp will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The commanders will meet on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. with the option to camp outside on Friday night. Friday will be a time of instruction just for the commanders and Saturday will include the rest of the participants. The group will fire canons and muskets during the time of instruction.
The camp will be free to the public. Questions can be asked and answered during the event.
