ITEM TITLE

Title

Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Request - Rename Portion of County Road 68 to Buc-ee’s Boulevard

Body

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Approve the request from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to rename a portion of County Road 68, from the Baldwin Beach Express west approximately 900 feet, to Buc-ee’s Boulevard.

End

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  N/A

Background:  Due to safety concerns in getting vehicles off Interstate 10 at Exit 49, ALDOT is requesting a portion of County Road 68 be renamed Buc-ee’s Boulevard in conjunction with improvements at Interstate 10, Baldwin Beach Express and County Road 68. The overhead signage proposed for the I-10 ramp would bear this road name and help guide traffic as vehicles exit the Interstate.

In July 2019, peak hourly traffic volumes were measured to be above 1,700 vehicles at the County Road 68 and Baldwin Beach Express intersection.
