BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  November 5, 2013 - Last BCC Space Allocation adopted for Foley Satellite Courthouse.

Background:  The Veterans Affairs (VA) Office has requested to be relocated due to the need for more office space as one additional staff member will be hired to accommodate the need of increased services for veterans in the Foley area.  The Baldwin County Board of Registrars’ Office (BOR) has agreed to relocate to the current VA office space in order to allow the VA to utilize the space BOR currently occupies.  The change in the office locations will take place after the March 3, 2020, Primary Election.  Staff is proposing the Commission to adopt the attached resolution which changes the space allocation as requested.

Staff has also updated the space allocation map to reflect other changes such as the US Representatives, First Alabama Congressional District, no longer occupying a space at the Foley Satellite Courthouse and the space currently being occupied by the Planning & Zoning Department.

The last space allocation change for the Baldwin County Foley Satellite Courthouse was approved by Resolution #2014-012, adopted November 5, 2013.  The proposed Resolution #2020-067 would repeal Resolution #2014-012.

According to Alabama General Law and Baldwin County Local Law, as recited in the attached resolution, the Baldwin County Commission has the sole authority to locate the courts and designate the office space to be utilized by the various county officers and/ or offices at all Baldwin County Commission facilities.
