Resolution #2021-026 - Designation of Alabama Secretary of State as Agent for Voter File Maintenance Program - Act No. 95-769

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution #2021-026, which appoints the Alabama Secretary of State to serve as the Baldwin County Commission's agent for the purposes of paying postage costs necessary for the mailing of certain notices to voters as required by Code of Alabama 1975 section 17-4-31, and collecting reimbursements for such costs from the Alabama State Elections Fund as provided for by Code of Alabama 1975, section 17-4-31, and, furthermore, authorizes the Chairman and members of the Baldwin County Commission to execute an Agency Agreement between the Alabama Secretary of State and the Baldwin County Commission related to the aforesaid. 

 

The Agency Agreement shall commence upon full execution between the parties and remain in effect until terminated.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date:  April 19, 2016 - BCC approved Resolution #2016-067 and Agency Agreement.  (This Agency Agreement is approved every four years after General Election.)

 

Background:  The Secretary of State has requested that the Baldwin County Commission execute the attached Resolution and Agency Agreement which authorize the Secretary of State's Office to act as the County's agent for the purposes of paying postage required for the mailing of National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) voter notices for voter file maintenance as required by the Code of Alabama 1975, section 17-4-30.
