STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Take the following actions:

1)  Approve the Highway Department engineering staff to prepare and submit an application for the Fiscal Year 2022 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP) to extend the Eastern Shore Trail from the U.S. Highway 98 Bridge over Fish River approximately 1.85 miles to Pleasant View Lane; and  

 

2)  Adopt Resolution #2021-078 and approve a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) advising of Baldwin County’s intent to apply for federal funds for the construction of the project; and


3)  Approve the Chairman to sign any other project related documents as necessary.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date:  June 2, 2020 - The Commission approved the Highway Department engineering staff to prepare and submit an application for the Fiscal Year 2021 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program, to extend the Eastern Shore Trail from the U.S. Highway 98 Bridge over Fish River approximately 1.85 miles to Pleasant View Lane; and approved Resolution No. 2020-084 and a letter of intent to apply for Federal Funds; and approved the Chairman to sign any project related documents, as needed. 

 

Background: 

The Alabama Department of Transportation has placed a “Call for Applications” for the Fiscal Year 2022 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program. The program has up to $640,000.00 of Federal Funding available at an 80/20 match.

 

The Highway Department submitted an application for FY 2021 TAP grant funds in June 2020 but was not approved for funding.

Total cost of recommendation:  $220,000.00 (If TAP Grant application is approved)
