STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Related to the Overnight Camping and a Movie Screening Event at Byrnes Lake Landing and at Bicentennial Park as previously approved by the Commission on July 6, 2021, take the following action:

As requested by Mr. Kenny Caperton, revise the dates previously approved for the event from October 25-26, 2021 to April 8-9, 2022.

The event held by Mr. Caperton will utilize the County-owned Byrnes Lake Landing site for a movie screening event, “On Set Cinema,” for approximately three (3) hours after sunset and the County-owned Bicentennial Park grounds for overnight camping and an additional movie viewing event.

This approval is contingent upon Mr. Caperton providing the County with a updated Certificate of Liability Insurance that meets County requirements prior to the event taking place and executing a updated Facility Event Space Rental Agreements for both events.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Previous Commission action/date:  July 6, 2021 - Approved by the Baldwin County Commission, a request from Mr. Caperton to use Byrnes Lake Landing and the Bicentennial Park grounds for overnight camping and a movie screening event on October 25-26, 2021.

Background:  Staff received correspondence from Mr. Caperton on September 7, 2021 requesting the previously approved dates of October 25-26, 2021 to be changed to April 8-9, 2022.

Mr. Caperton operates a project, “On Set Cinema,” where movies are shown all over the country at their actual filming locations.  Byrnes Lake Landing was one of the filming sites for the movie “Friday the 13th” and Mr. Caperton is requesting to hold the event at Byrnes Lake Landing for that reason (see attached itinerary).

The event is a for-profit event with a maximum of 50 people attending who would buy tickets from Mr. Caperton to participate.
