STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution #2022-017 which denounces any effort by the Alabama Legislature or any other entity or organization, to affect the Baldwin County Sheriff's ability to provide for the safety and welfare of all Baldwin County citizens by eliminating the necessity for obtaining a concealed carry pistol permit and denounces the weakening or further restriction of the Baldwin County Sheriff's ability to determine which Baldwin County residents are duly qualified to possess and keep a concealed pistol.

Previous Commission action/date:  See below.

 

March 3, 2020, BCC Regular Meeting - The Commission adopted Resolution #2020-068 opposing House Bill 39 and Senate Bill 47 related to the issuance of concealed carry permits within the State of Alabama.

 

Background:  The County Administrator has received a request from Sheriff Mack for the Commission to adopt another resolution supporting the Sheriff regarding the issuance and preservation of concealed carry permits.  The Sheriff is expecting legislation to be introduced again to do away with the permits and is asking the Commission’s support again in opposing it.
