1)  Accept Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Fiscal Year 2021 Local Program in the amount of $16,375.00; and

2)  Authorize the Chairman to execute documents related to this grant.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date: 

August 3, 2021 - BCC authorized staff to apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Fiscal Year 2021 Local Program in the amount of $16,375.00.

 

Background:  The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program assists communities in a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. The Bureau of Justice Statistics calculates the formula for funding based on population and Part 1 violent crime statistics. Funds can be used for technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, information systems for criminal justice, law enforcement programs, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs, community corrections programs, drug treatment and enforcement programs, planning and evaluation, crime victim and witness protection programs, mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs. The local government must apply for funding on behalf of the law enforcement agency.
