STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Take the following actions:

1)  Approve Highway Department staff to prepare and submit an application for the Fiscal Year 2023 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) to request federal funding for the extension of the County Road 1 sidewalk from existing sidewalk approximately 2.0 miles south; and

2)  Adopt Resolution #2022-087 and authorize the Chairman to send a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) advising of Baldwin County’s intent to apply for federal funds for the construction of the project; and

3)  Approve the Chairman to sign any other award or reporting documents as needed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Previous Commission action/date: 

May 18, 2021: Approved the Highway Department engineering staff to prepare and submit an application for the Fiscal Year 2022 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP) to extend the Eastern Shore Trail from the U.S. Highway 98 Bridge over Fish River approximately 1.85 miles to Pleasant View Lane; and adopted Resolution #2021-078 and approved a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) advising of Baldwin County’s intent to apply for federal funds for the construction of the project; and approved the Chairman to sign any other project related documents as necessary.

 

Background:  The FY 2023 TAP application deadline is June 30, 2022. This year the total amount that a project sponsor can apply for has been increased to $1,000,000.00 ($800,000.00 federal and $200,000.00 local match).

The Highway Department submitted an application for FY 2022 TAP grant funds in June 2021 but was not approved for funding.
