BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Background:  In 2015, a 6-foot paved shoulder was added to the southbound lane of County Road 99 between U.S. Highway 98 and Spanish Cove Drive North. This paved shoulder is intended for non-vehicular use. In 2021, this 6-foot paved shoulder was extended from Spanish Cove Drive North to Carrier Drive. A final extension of this paved shoulder is currently in the design phase to add an 8-foot paved shoulder from Carrier Drive to County Road 91 with construction scheduled to begin in 2023. An engineering study was performed near Spanish Cove Drive North revealing the 85th percentile speed was 54 MPH and the average speed was 47 MPH with an Average Daily Traffic of 5,349 vehicles per day. County Road 99 is within the jurisdiction of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
