STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution #2025-117, authorizing an appropriation of $10,950.00 from the Historic Parks Fund to the Fort Mims Restoration Association, Inc. for the Fort Mims Re-enactment and Living History Event on August 29-31, 2025.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

Background: The Alabama Lease Tax Act# 2019-338 allows for expenditures for historic sites in Baldwin County as follows: At least ten (10) percent shall be expended for the Historic Blakeley Authority and up to two (2) percent shall be expended for other historic sites in Baldwin County for the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of historic sites.

 

Ms. Claudia Campbell, President of the Fort Mims Restoration Association, Inc. (FMRA), has requested funding from the Historic Parks Fund for the Annual Re-enactment and Living History event to be held Friday - Sunday, August 29-31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day. The FMRA maintains the Fort Mims State Historic Site for the Alabama Historical Commission.

 

Ms. Campbell will be present at the work session to answer any questions that the Commission may have.

 

Previous Commission action/date: 

March 5, 2024 - Adopted Resolution #2024-080, authorizing an appropriation of $15,000.00 from the Historic Parks Fund to the Fort Mims Restoration Association for the 2024 Fort Mims Re-enactment and Living History Event, with said appropriation/expenditure being used to offset costs incurred.

 

July 18, 2023 - Adopted Resolution #2023-154, authorizing an appropriation in the amount of $15,000.00 from the Historic Parks Fund to the Fort Mims Restoration Association, Inc. for the Fort Mims Reenactment and Living History Event and School Days Event 2023 at Fort Mims State Historic Site.

Total cost of recommendation:  $10,950.00

 

Budget line item(s) to be used:  742.23506
